admin_print_footer_scripts filter

Prints any scripts and data queued for the footer.

To use admin_print_footer_scripts filter, first you have to register it using add_filter. You can write this code into functions.php of your activated theme or in a custom WordPress Plugin.

We at WePlugins always prefer to create a custom WordPress Plugin while using hooks so nothing breaks when you update your WordPress Theme in the future.

In the below live example, we have defined a function weplugins_modify_admin_print_footer_scripts_defaults and we registered using add_filter. The first parameter admin_print_footer_scripts is the name of the hook, the second parameter weplugins_modify_admin_print_footer_scripts_defaults is the name of the function which needs to be called, the third parameter is the priority of calling the hook if the same hook is used multiple times, and the last parameter is the number of arguments (if any) to be passed in the registered function.

Sometimes, you have to remove a registered hook so you can use remove_filter to remove admin_print_footer_scripts filter.

Live Example

Example 1: Adding Custom JavaScript to Footer

Here’s how you can add custom JavaScript to the footer of your admin pages using the admin_print_footer_scripts filter.

    function weplugins_admin_footer_js() {
        // Check to make sure this is the page you want to alter first
        if (!isset($_GET['post_type']) || false === strpos($_GET['post_type'], 'my-cpt')) {
            return false;
        }
        // get_current_screen() can result in fatal error on some admin pages, hence using it after a basic check above
        $screen = get_current_screen();
        if ('edit' != $screen->base && '' != $screen->action) {
            return;
        }
        echo '<script>console.log("Custom JS in Footer");</script>';
    }
    add_filter("admin_print_footer_scripts", "weplugins_admin_footer_js");

Example 2: Modify Admin Footer Scripts

Below is an example of how you can use this hook to modify admin footer scripts.

    function weplugins_modify_admin_print_footer_scripts_defaults() {
        // Update the $option variable according to your website requirements
        $option = 'modified_value';
        return $option;
    }
    // Add the filter
    add_filter("admin_print_footer_scripts", "weplugins_modify_admin_print_footer_scripts_defaults");

Example 3: Removing a Hook Callback

To remove a hook callback, use the example below.

    remove_filter("admin_print_footer_scripts", "weplugins_modify_admin_print_footer_scripts_defaults");

Please make sure to provide the same callback function name, priority, and number of arguments while removing the hook callback.
