comment_duplicate_message filter
Filters duplicate comment error message.
To use comment_duplicate_message filter, first you have to register it using add_filter. You can write this code into functions.php of your activated theme or in a custom WordPress Plugin.
We at WePlugins always prefer to create a custom WordPress Plugin while using hooks so nothing breaks when you update your WordPress Theme in the future.
In the below live example, we have defined a function weplugins_modify_comment_duplicate_message_defaults which takes 1 parameter and we registered using add_filter. The first parameter comment_duplicate_message is the name of the hook, the second parameter weplugins_modify_comment_duplicate_message_defaults is the name of the function which needs to be called, the third parameter is the priority of calling the hook if the same hook is used multiple times, and the last parameter is the number of arguments (if any) to be passed in the registered function.
Sometimes, you have to remove a registered hook so you can use remove_filter to remove comment_duplicate_message filter.
Parameters
- $comment_duplicate_message : (string) Duplicate comment error message.
Below the 1 parameter is required to use this hook.
Live Example
apply_filters( 'comment_duplicate_message', string $comment_duplicate_message )
Below is an example of how you can use this hook.
Example 1: Basic Usage
This example demonstrates how to modify the duplicate comment error message.
function weplugins_modify_comment_duplicate_message_defaults($comment_duplicate_message) { // Update the $comment_duplicate_message variable according to your website requirements and return this variable. You can modify the $comment_duplicate_message variable conditionally too if you want. return $comment_duplicate_message; } // add the filter add_filter( "comment_duplicate_message", "weplugins_modify_comment_duplicate_message_defaults", 10, 1 );
Example 2: Custom Message
This example shows how to set a custom duplicate comment error message.
function weplugins_custom_comment_duplicate_message($comment_duplicate_message) { $comment_duplicate_message = "You have already submitted this comment!"; return $comment_duplicate_message; } // add the filter add_filter( "comment_duplicate_message", "weplugins_custom_comment_duplicate_message", 10, 1 );
Example 3: Conditional Message
This example demonstrates how to conditionally change the duplicate comment error message based on certain conditions.
function weplugins_conditional_comment_duplicate_message($comment_duplicate_message) { if ( is_user_logged_in() ) { $comment_duplicate_message = "Logged-in users cannot post duplicate comments."; } else { $comment_duplicate_message = "Guest users cannot post duplicate comments."; } return $comment_duplicate_message; } // add the filter add_filter( "comment_duplicate_message", "weplugins_conditional_comment_duplicate_message", 10, 1 );
To remove a hook callback, use the example below.
remove_filter( "comment_duplicate_message", "weplugins_modify_comment_duplicate_message_defaults", 10, 1 );
Please make sure to provide the same callback function name, priority, and number of arguments while removing the hook callback.
