dynamic_sidebar_has_widgets filter
The dynamic_sidebar_has_widgets filter is also evaluated for empty sidebars, and on both the front end and back end, including the Inactive Widgets sidebar on the Widgets screen.
To use the dynamic_sidebar_has_widgets filter, first you have to register it using add_filter. You can write this code into functions.php of your activated theme or in a custom WordPress Plugin.
We at WePlugins always prefer to create a custom WordPress Plugin while using hooks so nothing breaks when you update your WordPress Theme in the future.
In the below live example, we have defined a function weplugins_modify_dynamic_sidebar_has_widgets_defaults which takes 2 parameters and we registered using add_filter. The first parameter dynamic_sidebar_has_widgets is the name of the hook, the second parameter weplugins_modify_dynamic_sidebar_has_widgets_defaults is the name of the function which needs to be called, the third parameter is the priority of calling the hook if the same hook is used multiple times and the last parameter is the number of arguments (if any) to be passed in the registered function.
Sometime, you have to remove a registered hook so you can use remove_filter to remove the dynamic_sidebar_has_widgets filter.
Parameters
- $did_one : (bool) Whether at least one widget was rendered in the sidebar. Default false.
- $index : (int|string) Index, name, or ID of the dynamic sidebar.
Below are the 2 parameters required to use this hook.
Live Example
apply_filters( 'dynamic_sidebar_has_widgets', bool $did_one, int|string $index )
Below is an example of how you can use this hook.
Example 1: Default Modification
In this example, we modify the $did_one variable to meet our website requirements.
function weplugins_modify_dynamic_sidebar_has_widgets_defaults($did_one, $index) { // Update the $did_one variable according to your website requirements and return this variable. You can modify the $did_one variable conditionally too if you want. return $did_one; } // add the filter add_filter( "dynamic_sidebar_has_widgets", "weplugins_modify_dynamic_sidebar_has_widgets_defaults", 10, 2 );
Example 2: Conditional Modification
In this example, we conditionally modify the $did_one variable based on the sidebar index.
function weplugins_conditional_dynamic_sidebar_has_widgets($did_one, $index) { if ($index == 'sidebar-1') { $did_one = true; } return $did_one; } // add the filter add_filter( "dynamic_sidebar_has_widgets", "weplugins_conditional_dynamic_sidebar_has_widgets", 10, 2 );
Example 3: Removing the Hook
To remove a hook callback, use the example below.
remove_filter( "dynamic_sidebar_has_widgets", "weplugins_modify_dynamic_sidebar_has_widgets_defaults", 10, 2 );
Please make sure to provide the same callback function name, priority, and number of arguments while removing the hook callback.
