edit_page_form action

Fires after ‘normal’ context meta boxes have been output for the ‘page’ post type.

To use edit_page_form action, first you have to register it using add_action. You can write this code into functions.php of your activated theme or in a custom WordPress Plugin.

We at WePlugins, always prefer to create a custom WordPress Plugin while using hooks so nothing breaks when you update your WordPress Theme in the future.

In the below live example, we have defined a function weplugins_execute_on_edit_page_form_event which takes 1 parameter and we registered using add_action. The first parameter edit_page_form is the name of the hook, The second parameter weplugins_execute_on_edit_page_form_event is the name of the function which needs to be called, the third parameter is the priority of calling the hook if the same hook is used multiple times and the last parameter is the number of arguments (if any) to be passed in the registered function.

Sometimes, you have to remove a registered hook so you can use remove_action to remove edit_page_form action.

Parameters

Below the 1 parameter is required to use this hook.

  • $post : (WP_Post) Post object.

Live Example

do_action( 'edit_page_form', WP_Post $post )

Below is an example of how you can use this hook.

Example 1: Basic Usage

This example demonstrates a basic usage of the edit_page_form action hook.

function weplugins_execute_on_edit_page_form_event($post) {
  // Code to be executed when this action occurs in WordPress.
  // Use the parameters received in the function arguments & implement the required custom functionality.
}
// add the action
add_action("edit_page_form", "weplugins_execute_on_edit_page_form_event", 10, 1);

Example 2: Adding Custom Meta Boxes

In this example, we’re adding custom meta boxes to the page edit form.

function weplugins_add_custom_meta_box($post) {
  add_meta_box(
    'weplugins_custom_meta_box',    // Unique ID
    'Custom Meta Box Title', // Box title
    'weplugins_custom_meta_box_html', // Content callback
    'page',                          // Post type
    'normal',                        // Context
    'high'                           // Priority
  );
}
add_action('edit_page_form', 'weplugins_add_custom_meta_box', 10, 1);

Example 3: Customizing Save Post

This example customizes the save post process when the edit page form is submitted.

function weplugins_custom_save_post($post_id) {
  if (defined('DOING_AUTOSAVE') && DOING_AUTOSAVE) {
    return;
  }
  // Custom save post logic
}
add_action('edit_page_form', 'weplugins_custom_save_post', 10, 1);

To remove a hook callback, use the example below.

remove_action("edit_page_form", "weplugins_execute_on_edit_page_form_event", 10, 1);

Please make sure to provide the same callback function name, priority, and number of arguments while removing the hook callback.
