handle_network_bulk_actions-screen filter

The redirect link should be modified with success or failure feedback from the action to be used to display feedback to the user.

To use the handle_network_bulk_actions-screen filter, first you have to register it using add_filter. You can write this code into the functions.php of your activated theme or in a custom WordPress Plugin.

We at WePlugins, always prefer to create a custom WordPress Plugin while using hooks so nothing breaks when you update your WordPress Theme in the future.

In the below live example, we have defined a function weplugins_modify_handle_network_bulk_actions-screen_defaults which takes 4 parameters and we registered using add_filter. The first parameter handle_network_bulk_actions-screen is the name of the hook, the second parameter weplugins_modify_handle_network_bulk_actions-screen_defaults is the name of the function which needs to be called, the third parameter is the priority of calling the hook if the same hook is used multiple times and the last parameter is the number of arguments (if any) to be passed in the registered function.

Sometimes, you have to remove a registered hook so you can use remove_filter to remove the handle_network_bulk_actions-screen filter.

Parameters

    Below are the 4 parameters required to use this hook.

  • $redirect_url : (string) The redirect URL.
  • $action : (string) The action being taken.
  • $items : (array) The items to take the action on.
  • $site_id : (int) The site ID.

Live Example

apply_filters( "handle_network_bulk_actions-{$screen}", string $redirect_url, string $action, array $items, int $site_id )

Below is an example of how you can use this hook.

    function weplugins_modify_handle_network_bulk_actions-screen_defaults($redirect_url, $action, $items, $site_id) {
      // Update the $redirect_url variable according to your website requirements and return this variable. You can modify the $redirect_url variable conditionally too if you want.
      return $redirect_url;
    }
    // add the filter
    add_filter( "handle_network_bulk_actions-screen", "weplugins_modify_handle_network_bulk_actions-screen_defaults", 10, 4 );

Example 1: Custom Redirection

In this example, we modify the $redirect_url based on the action taken.

    function weplugins_custom_redirect_url($redirect_url, $action, $items, $site_id) {
      if ($action == 'delete') {
        $redirect_url = 'https://example.com/delete-success';
      }
      return $redirect_url;
    }
    add_filter("handle_network_bulk_actions-screen", "weplugins_custom_redirect_url", 10, 4);

Example 2: Conditional Redirect

Modify the redirection URL conditionally based on the items being processed.

    function weplugins_conditional_redirect_url($redirect_url, $action, $items, $site_id) {
      if (in_array('specific-item', $items)) {
        $redirect_url = 'https://example.com/special-item-handled';
      }
      return $redirect_url;
    }
    add_filter("handle_network_bulk_actions-screen", "weplugins_conditional_redirect_url", 10, 4);

Example 3: Logging Actions

Log actions taken during the network bulk action handling.

    function weplugins_log_bulk_action($redirect_url, $action, $items, $site_id) {
      error_log("Action: $action, Items: " . implode(',', $items) . ", Site ID: $site_id");
      return $redirect_url;
    }
    add_filter("handle_network_bulk_actions-screen", "weplugins_log_bulk_action", 10, 4);

To remove a hook callback, use the example below.

remove_filter("handle_network_bulk_actions-screen", "weplugins_modify_handle_network_bulk_actions-screen_defaults", 10, 4);

Please make sure to provide the same callback function name, priority, and number of arguments while removing the hook callback.
