Hey there! If you’re diving into WordPress hooks, you’re gonna love this one. Let’s talk about the pre_set_site_transient_transient filter. This hook is super useful when you need to modify the value of a site transient before it’s set. The dynamic part of the hook name, $transient, refers to the transient name.

To use the pre_set_site_transient_transient filter, you’ll first need to register it using add_filter. You can place this code in the functions.php file of your activated theme or create a custom WordPress plugin. Pro tip: we at WePlugins always prefer creating a custom WordPress plugin for hooks so that nothing breaks when you update your WordPress theme.

In the following live example, we’ll define a function weplugins_modify_pre_set_site_transient_transient_defaults which takes 2 parameters and register it using add_filter. The first parameter pre_set_site_transient_transient is the name of the hook, the second parameter weplugins_modify_pre_set_site_transient_transient_defaults is the name of the function to be called, the third parameter is the priority of calling the hook if the same hook is used multiple times, and the last parameter is the number of arguments (if any) to be passed to the registered function.

Sometimes, you may need to remove a registered hook, and for that, you can use remove_filter to remove the pre_set_site_transient_transient filter.

Parameters

    Below are the 2 parameters required to use this hook:

  • $value : (mixed) New value of site transient.
  • $transient : (string) Transient name.

Live Example 1

Below is an example of how you can use this hook.

function weplugins_modify_pre_set_site_transient_transient_defaults($value, $transient) {
    // Update the $value variable according to your website requirements and return this variable.
    // You can modify the $value variable conditionally too if you want.
    return $value;
}
// add the filter
add_filter( "pre_set_site_transient_transient", "weplugins_modify_pre_set_site_transient_transient_defaults", 10, 2 );

Live Example 2

Here’s how you can use the hook for a specific transient.

function weplugins_modify_specific_site_transient($value, $transient) {
    if ($transient === 'my_transient_name') {
        // Modify the value for this specific transient
        $value = 'new_value';
    }
    return $value;
}
add_filter( "pre_set_site_transient_transient", "weplugins_modify_specific_site_transient", 10, 2 );

Live Example 3

To remove a hook callback, use the example below.

remove_filter( "pre_set_site_transient_transient", "weplugins_modify_pre_set_site_transient_transient_defaults", 10, 2 );

Please make sure to provide the same callback function name, priority, and number of arguments while removing the hook callback.
