day_link filter

Filters the day archive permalink.

To use the day_link filter, first, you have to register it using add_filter. You can write this code into the functions.php of your activated theme or in a custom WordPress Plugin.

We at WePlugins always prefer to create a custom WordPress Plugin while using hooks so nothing breaks when you update your WordPress Theme in the future.

In the below live example, we have defined a function modify_day_link_defaults which takes 4 parameters and we registered using add_filter. The first parameter, day_link, is the name of the hook; the second parameter, modify_day_link_defaults, is the name of the function which needs to be called; the third parameter is the priority of calling the hook if the same hook is used multiple times; and the last parameter is the number of arguments (if any) to be passed in the registered function.

Sometimes, you have to remove a registered hook, so you can use remove_filter to remove the day_link filter.

Parameters

Below are the 4 parameters required to use this hook:

  • $daylink: (string) Permalink for the day archive.
  • $year: (int) Year for the archive.
  • $month: (int) Month for the archive.
  • $day: (int) The day for the archive.

Live Example

apply_filters( 'day_link', string $daylink, int $year, int $month, int $day )

Below is an example of how you can use this hook.

Example 1: Modify the Day Link

This example demonstrates how to modify the day link using the day_link filter.

    function weplugins_modify_day_link_defaults($daylink, $year, $month, $day) {
        // Update the $daylink variable according to your website requirements and return this variable. You can modify the $daylink variable conditionally too if you want.
        return $daylink;
    }
    // add the filter
    add_filter( "day_link", "weplugins_modify_day_link_defaults", 10, 4 );

Example 2: Remove the Day Link Filter

To remove a hook callback, use the example below.

    // remove the filter
    remove_filter( "day_link", "weplugins_modify_day_link_defaults", 10, 4 );

Please make sure to provide the same callback function name, priority, and number of arguments while removing the hook callback.

Example 3: Conditional Day Link Modification

This example shows how to conditionally modify the day link based on specific criteria.

    function weplugins_conditional_day_link_modify($daylink, $year, $month, $day) {
        if ($year == 2023 && $month == 10) {
            // Modify the daylink for October 2023
            $daylink = 'https://example.com/special-archive/' . $year . '/' . $month . '/' . $day;
        }
        return $daylink;
    }
    // add the filter
    add_filter( "day_link", "weplugins_conditional_day_link_modify", 10, 4 );
