default_site_option_option filter

The dynamic portion of the hook name, $option, refers to the option name. To use default_site_option_option filter, first, you have to register it using add_filter. You can write this code into the functions.php of your activated theme or in a custom WordPress Plugin. Creating a custom WordPress Plugin is preferred so nothing breaks when you update your WordPress Theme in the future.

In the below live example, we have defined a function modify_default_site_option_option_defaults which takes 3 parameters and we registered using add_filter. The first parameter default_site_option_option is the name of the hook, the second parameter modify_default_site_option_option_defaults is the name of the function which needs to be called, the third parameter is the priority of calling the hook if the same hook is used multiple times and the last parameter is the number of arguments (if any) to be passed in the registered function.

Sometimes, you have to remove a registered hook so you can use remove_filter to remove default_site_option_option filter.

Example 1: Registering the Hook

Here is how you can register the default_site_option_option filter using add_filter.

    function weplugins_modify_default_site_option_option_defaults($default, $option, $network_id) {
        // Update the $default variable according to your website requirements and return this variable. You can modify the $default variable conditionally too if you want.
        return $default;
    }
    // Add the filter
    add_filter("default_site_option_option", "weplugins_modify_default_site_option_option_defaults", 10, 3);

Example 2: Removing the Hook

To remove a hook callback, use the example below. Ensure you provide the same callback function name, priority, and number of arguments while removing the hook callback.

    remove_filter("default_site_option_option", "weplugins_modify_default_site_option_option_defaults", 10, 3);

Example 3: Preventing Failure to Add New Option

Remove the filter to prevent failure to add a new option.

    remove_filter('default_site_option_my_network_option', 'weplugins_setup_default_value', 10);
    update_site_option('my_network_option', 'My Option Value');
