manage_post-post_type_posts_custom_column filter
The dynamic portion of the hook name, $post->post_type, refers to the post type.
To use the manage_post-post_type_posts_custom_column filter, first you have to register it using add_filter. You can write this code into functions.php of your activated theme or in a custom WordPress Plugin.
At WePlugins, we always prefer to create a custom WordPress Plugin while using hooks so nothing breaks when you update your WordPress Theme in the future.
In the below live example, we have defined a function modify_manage_post-post_type_posts_custom_column_defaults which takes 2 parameters and we registered using add_filter. The first parameter manage_post-post_type_posts_custom_column is the name of the hook, the second parameter modify_manage_post-post_type_posts_custom_column_defaults is the name of the function which needs to be called, the third parameter is the priority of calling the hook if the same hook is used multiple times and the last parameter is the number of arguments (if any) to be passed in the registered function.
Sometimes, you have to remove a registered hook so you can use remove_filter to remove manage_post-post_type_posts_custom_column filter.
Parameters
- $column_name: (string) The name of the column to display.
- $post_id: (int) The current post ID.
Below are the 2 parameters required to use this hook.
Live Example
Example 1: Custom Column Values for CPT
Let’s say we have a Custom Post Type (CPT) called ‘product’. This example shows how to display custom field values in the custom columns.
// let's say we have a CPT called 'product' function weplugins_product_custom_column_values( $column, $post_id ) { switch ( $column ) { // in this example, a Product has custom fields called 'product_number' and 'product_name' case 'product_number': case 'product_name': echo get_post_meta( $post_id , $column , true ); break; } } add_filter( 'manage_product_posts_custom_column', 'weplugins_product_custom_column_values', 10, 2 );
Example 2: Modifying Column Defaults
This example shows how you can modify the default columns for a post type by using the hook.
function weplugins_modify_manage_post_post_type_posts_custom_column_defaults($column_name, $post_id) { // Update the $column_name variable according to your website requirements and return this variable. // You can modify the $column_name variable conditionally too if you want. return $column_name; } // add the filter add_filter( 'manage_post-post_type_posts_custom_column', 'weplugins_modify_manage_post_post_type_posts_custom_column_defaults', 10, 2 );
Example 3: Removing a Hook Callback
To remove a hook callback, use the example below. Make sure to provide the same callback function name, priority and number of arguments while removing the hook callback.
remove_filter( 'manage_post-post_type_posts_custom_column', 'weplugins_modify_manage_post_post_type_posts_custom_column_defaults', 10, 2 );
