media_upload_mime_type_links filter
Returned values should begin with an <li>
tag.
To use the media_upload_mime_type_links filter, first, you have to register it using add_filter
. You can write this code into the functions.php
of your activated theme or in a custom WordPress Plugin.
We at WePlugins always prefer to create a custom WordPress Plugin while using hooks so nothing breaks when you update your WordPress Theme in the future.
In the below live example, we have defined a function modify_media_upload_mime_type_links_defaults
which takes 1 parameter and we registered using add_filter
. The first parameter media_upload_mime_type_links is the name of the hook, the second parameter modify_media_upload_mime_type_links_defaults is the name of the function that needs to be called, the third parameter is the priority of calling the hook if the same hook is used multiple times and the last parameter is the number of arguments (if any) to be passed in the registered function.
Sometimes, you have to remove a registered hook, so you can use remove_filter
to remove the media_upload_mime_type_links filter.
Parameters
- $type_links : (string[]) An array of list items containing mime type link HTML.
Below the 1 parameter is required to use this hook.
Live Example
apply_filters( 'media_upload_mime_type_links', string[] $type_links )
Below is an example of how you can use this hook.
function weplugins_modify_media_upload_mime_type_links_defaults($type_links) { // Update the $type_links variable according to your website requirements and return this variable. You can modify the $type_links variable conditionally too if you want. return $type_links; } // add the filter add_filter( "media_upload_mime_type_links", "weplugins_modify_media_upload_mime_type_links_defaults", 10, 1 );
Example 1: Modifying Mime Type Links
This example shows how you can modify the mime type links for media upload.
function weplugins_modify_media_upload_mime_type_links_example1($type_links) { // Custom modification of $type_links $type_links['custom_mime'] = '<li>Custom Mime Type</li>'; return $type_links; } add_filter( 'media_upload_mime_type_links', 'weplugins_modify_media_upload_mime_type_links_example1', 10, 1 );
Example 2: Adding a New Mime Type Link
This example demonstrates how to add a new mime type link to the existing array.
function weplugins_modify_media_upload_mime_type_links_example2($type_links) { $type_links[] = '<li>New Mime Type</li>'; return $type_links; } add_filter( 'media_upload_mime_type_links', 'weplugins_modify_media_upload_mime_type_links_example2', 10, 1 );
Example 3: Conditional Mime Type Link Modification
Here, we conditionally modify the mime type links based on certain criteria.
function weplugins_modify_media_upload_mime_type_links_example3($type_links) { // Check some condition if ( is_admin() ) { $type_links[] = '<li>Admin Mime Type</li>'; } return $type_links; } add_filter( 'media_upload_mime_type_links', 'weplugins_modify_media_upload_mime_type_links_example3', 10, 1 );
To remove a hook callback, use the example below.
remove_filter( "media_upload_mime_type_links", "weplugins_modify_media_upload_mime_type_links_defaults", 10, 1 );
Please make sure to provide the same callback function name, priority, and number of arguments while removing the hook callback.
